Cheyenne Police Taking Applicants for Citizen’s Police Academy
Registration is now open for the Cheyenne Police Department’s fall 2022 Citizen's Police Academy.
The five-week academy, free and open to the public, begins on Oct. 3 and runs through Nov. 4.
"The academy is an interactive program that takes citizens behind the scenes of the police department," Public Information Officer Alex Farkas said in a news release.
"It is designed to help increase awareness and understanding of how policing is conducted while strengthening the relationship between community members and police officers," Farkas added.

The academy will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Public Safety Center at 415 W. 18th Street. There will also be two Saturday field classes conducted for firearms and K-9 training.
"The curriculum will include courses in constitutional law, criminal investigations, human trafficking, and property crime," said Farkas.
"Additionally, students will actively learn about de-escalation and use of force, traffic enforcement, telecommunications (9-1-1), and vehicle pursuits," she added, "Several practical exercises will be conducted so that participants gain a working knowledge of the duties and responsibilities required to be a law enforcement officer in Cheyenne."
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, agree to a background check, have a valid driver's license, and sign a liability waiver.
Citizens can apply online at http://www.cheyennepd.org/CPA. Registration will be open until Sept. 26 or whenever the first 30 valid applicants sign up.
