Deputies, Troopers Rescue Boy West of Laramie
A boy was cold, but needed no medical attention after three Albany County Sheriff's deputies and two Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers pulled him out of a lake Sunday afternoon.
According to a news release from the Albany County Sheriff's office, the boy was fishing at Mill Pond Lake in the Snowy Mountain range when he waded into the water and got stuck in the mud at the bottom of the lake.
The boy's father reportedly tried unsuccessfully to pull his son out of the mud. Sheriff's deputies were notified at 2 p.m. and went to help.
The boy had reportedly been stuck in the water, which came up to just above his knees, for three to three and a half hours when deputies arrived.
Deputies and troopers spent about an hour assisting the boy. They entered the water, dug around the boy's legs and eventually cut the waders he had been wearing in order to get him out of the lake and onto the beach.
"It was pretty hard," says Undersheriff Rob DeBee. "Even our deputies got in to the point where they were actually becoming nearly stuck themselves."
"It was just a combination of the shale rock and the mud that was making it almost impossible to free him."
DeBree says the boy's family warmed him up in their truck once he was out of the lake.
