Wyoming’s Five Most Epic Road Trips For Labor Day
With the end of summer looming on the 21st of September and the Labor Day Weekend unofficially signaling the approach of fall, it’s time to hit the road. We live in the state with some of the most beautiful countrysides in the world. Go see it!
Matt Hershberger came up with 5 epic road trips that you might want to pick from for one to squeeze in before the snow flies. He suggests:
The Northern Line 450 mile / 8½ hour drive from The Black Hills of South Dakota to Yellowstone, or in reverse.
The old Park-To-Park Highway from Cheyenne to Yellowstone. You can take in Fort Laramie, Oregon Trail Ruts, Wind River Scenic Canyon Scenic Byway, Thermopolis covering 550 miles.
The Mountain-To-Mountain Route runs 500 miles from Cheyenne to Jackson, passing Curt Gowdy State Park, Snowy Range Scenic Byway, Sinks Canyon State Park and Gand Teton National Park. Bring a camera for sure.
Matt’s Salt Lake to Yellowstone covers 350 miles in 7 hours if you don’t stop for Flaming Gorge, Fossil Butte, Snake River Canyon, Grand Teton National Park or Yellowstone National Park. Good luck passing them by, but it can be done if you just want to cruise.
His Wild West trip begins with time in Cheyenne (including side trips) and ends in Sundance, where Harry Longabaugh got his nickname made infamous in his relationship with the outlaw Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch. Check into the trails that opened the west with the Oregon Trail, The Mormon Trail, The California Trail, the Pony Express Routes.
Hershberger’s post has an eloquent and loving look at the destinations for a Wyoming road trip that might just get you to load up some great tunes and road snacks and hit the open road this weekend.
