The 26th annual Laramie Plains Lions Club Ice Fishing Derby will be at Lake Hattie Jan. 5 and 6, 2019, and features over $3500 in prize money.

Registration is open at the West Laramie Fly Store, where you can also get your fishing license. The cost for the Derby is $35 for adults. Youth under 14 years of age are just $5 but must be accompanied by a registered adult.

The ice fishing on Lake Hattie will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 and then from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6.

Lew Lyon from the Laramie Plains Lions Club joined host David Settle during the “Laramie Live on KOWB” radio morning show Thursday. He talked about his involvement in this annual event, the prizes available, the good news of ice already on the lake, where to get registered, and more.

The top prize for adults is $1500 for the largest fish. There’s also a tagged fish that if caught results in $2000. The first prize for youth is $150 and a trophy. There are a few other prize levels, which includes the smallest fish caught. You can get $25 for that.
