UPDATE:

Trooper Washburn of the Wyoming Highway Patrol says that two commercial vehicles were driving into Telephone Canyon from the east yesterday afternoon.  One was a flatbed semi-trailer that was hauling drywall for the new Laramie High School.  That vehicle was using the left lane to overtake the other truck, when the driver inadvertently struck the median, causing his vehicle to overturn at mile marker 321.  He was wearing his seatbelt, and was taken to Ivinson Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.  The driver was examined and released from the hospital last night.

I-80 westbound was blocked for several hours.  At one point, traffic was backed up for approximately ten miles. Drivers were able to use the right lane only as cleanup continued.  Trooper Washburn got the call around 12:30 p.m. and remained at the scene until 5:30 p.m., when the accident was cleared and the flow of traffic resumed.  WYDOT reported all lanes open at 8:00 p.m. yesterday.

Traffic in the westbound lane of Interstate 80 just east of Laramie has slowed to a crawl.

WYDOT officials say that the left lane is completely blocked at this time, and that drivers should be prepared to stick to the right lane.

Eyewitnesses report that a flatbed semi-trailer loaded with drywall had overturned, possibly after striking the median near milepost 320, about halfway down Telephone Canyon.  The accident occurred around noon today and is still under investigation.

How many people were involved in the crash, or if anyone was hurt, is still unknown.  WYDOT crews continue clean-up at the scene, which poses serious delays for any drivers traveling westbound on I-80.  More information will be provided as soon as it is made available.
