A 42-year-old Cheyenne woman is facing felony charges after reportedly spiraling out of control after being arrested for theft.

According to a booking sheet, police arrested Heather Edwards at a home in the 3000 block of O'Neil Avenue at 6:12 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, after she allegedly tried to steal more than $1,000 worth of property from a female.

Police say Edwards resisted arrest and had to be placed in the WRAP, and that alcohol was involved.

Edwards was then taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, where she reportedly spit at a male deputy and assaulted a female deputy.

Edwards was subsequently charged with felony theft, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both; assault and battery on a corrections or detention officer - propels any dangerous substance, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, up to a $5,000 fine, or both; interference with a peace officer - injury, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both; and interference with a peace officer - no injury, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail, up to a $1,000 fine, or both.

Initial Court Appearance

The following afternoon, Oct. 3, Edwards was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge TJ Forwood on the charges.

Forwood appointed Edwards a public defender.

He then asked the state for recommendation on bond.

"Ms. Edwards' conduct with law enforcement and the number of these charges certainly gives the state concern for her ability to comply with court orders," the state said. "Ms. Edwards has a long history of alcohol-related offenses from 2010, 2022, 2023, and 2024, as well as a history of failing to comply with law enforcement from 2010 and 2023."

"All of that gives the state concern for her ability and willingness to comply with court orders in these matters, as well as for the safety of the community and herself," the state added. "For those reasons the state believes that a cash bond is appropriate and would request $4,000 cash."

Bond Set at $4K Cash

"I do believe that a $4,000 cash bond is appropriate," said Forwood.

Edwards' next court date will be a preliminary hearing on Friday, Oct. 10, at 9:45 a.m.
