Laramie Parks and Recreation Warns Residents of Thin Ice
The Laramie Parks and Recreation department is notifying the public about unsafe ice conditions in and around LaBonte Lake and Huck Finn Pond.
The city says dangerous ice conditions exist due to changing weather conditions, increased cattails along the edges of the lake and pond, and the lake aerator located in LaBonte Lake.
Parks and Recreation Director Todd Feezer said that people should not try to walk or skate on the ice of LaBonte Lake or Huck Finn pond.
"Parks and Recreation was alerted by police that residents were skating on the ice over the weekend on the ponds, and we wanted to ensure we notified the public against skating," Feezer said.
Signs have been posted at both locations alerting the public to keep off the ice. The city says it is possible for people and pets to break though the ice, risking injury or death. Feezer said no injuries were reported.
