New years often bring new outlooks, and it seems that's what Lauren Alaina is experiencing right now.

The "Road Less Traveled" singer has announced a break from social media in an effort to find the person she once was.

"This Lauren didn’t care if she wore boy clothes," she writes on Instagram next to a photo of her childhood self. "She preferred it actually. She didn't know the future. Its ups and downs. The happiness and pain it held. She didn't know about heartbreak or loss."

Alaina's stepfather, Sam Ramker, died late last year after a battle with Stage 4 cancer.

"She didn't know how cruel people can be or how much words can hurt, but she didn't care what people thought of her or her boy clothes," she continues. "She was happy and sure of herself. She knew she wanted to write songs and sing them. She loved fiercely and boldly. And most importantly, she knew how to smile through a mom bob."

Alaina is determined to find that person once again.

“I want to live everyday to be more like her," she says. "I'm looking behind every rock and corner for her this year, and I'm going to find her. I'm taking a little break from social media. I'll be back soon. Probably not in a boys' collared shirt, but I'll be back more like her."

Alaina hinted at taking a social media break in an Instagram post on Jan. 1, in which she expressed a hope to change her life.

"2018 tested me more than any year I’ve ever lived," she said alongside a compilation of pictures from the past year.  "Life is short. You have to love the people around you fully. They could be here one day and gone the next."

"The ups and downs of last year have really pushed me to find out who I really am," she adds.

Alaina will head out on tour with Blake Shelton next month.
