Two good pitching performances by Sheridan led the Troopers to a sweep of the Laramie Rangers in conference action on Wednesday.

Laramie (12-10, 0-4) remains winless in the ‘AA’ Legion Baseball East Conference.

In the opener, the Rangers fell 8-0 to Sheridan. The nightcap saw Laramie suffer a 2-1 loss.

The Rangers were held to three hits in game one. Sheridan scored two runs in the second inning. The Troopers tacked on three in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth inning.

Carter Dubberley and Hunter Stone kept Laramie down, though they combined for only one strikeout.

Tyler Oppie, Ryan Chamberlain, and Brandon Chavez had the hits for the Rangers. Trevor Stowe led Sheridan with two hits and three RBI’s.

The second game of the doubleheader was a pitcher’s duel between Oppie and Ayden Roush.

Laramie took a 1-0 lead on Caleb Eaton’s RBI-single in the third inning that scored Chavez. It stayed that way until the sixth inning.

Sheridan scored two runs on a pair of singles, an error, and a ground out. In the seventh, the Rangers managed one hit, but a pop out and a ground out ended the game.

Oppie threw only 82 pitches over six innings but suffered the loss. He allowed two unearned runs on just three hits. Oppie had three strikeouts with zero walks.

Roush allowed one run on three hits over six innings. He struck out four with three walks. Roush helped himself with the go-ahead RBI-single for the Troopers in the sixth inning. Jacob Boint got the save.

These two teams will rematch in Laramie for a conference doubleheader on July 22.

The Rangers have lost three in a row. They return to action on Saturday without their seniors at Torrington. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. Saturday, June 27 is graduation for Laramie High School. It was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Laramie returns home to face the Westco Zephyrs from Scottsbluff, NE on Sunday. The twin bill will begin at noon. KOWB (AM 1290) will have the broadcast of game two around 2 p.m. on Sunday.
