Hosted by the Albany County SAFE Project, the annual event is about calling attention to the prevalence of sexual assault that happens everywhere in the world, even here in Wyoming.

“Last year’s Take Back the Night event centered around a guest speaker,” SAFE Project Outreach Coordinator Livvy Gerrish said in a statement. “This year’s event is designed to be a positive, empowering space for survivors, drawing attention to the fact that they are not alone.”

Take Back the Night will begin with a rally at 5:30pm at First Street Plaza. Participants are encouraged to come with posters and signs, though SAFE Project will also have some available.

After the rally, at about 6:00 PM, there will be a march to the Train Depot, with a free concert by Laramie band The Woodpile.

“Take Back the Night events began in the 1970s to symbolize how women united can resist fear and violence - even in the dark,” Gerrish said. “We know sexual assault occurs in large numbers in Albany County, and we want to give survivors an opportunity to feel seen.”
