The Rangers Return To Cowboy Field

After a month away, the Laramie Rangers finally are back at the friendly confines of Cowboy Field for a doubleheader Friday.

Laramie (7-16) hasn’t played a home game since May 16. They’ve gone 6-5 in their 11 games played during the last four weeks. The Rangers had a six-game win streak, but have lost five in a row going into tonight’s twin bill. After their 2-2 trip to Spearfish, SD, they lost 11-1 and 10-0 at the Greeley GoJo’s Tuesday and fell 12-0 at the Casper Oilers on Wednesday of this week.

Starting at 5 p.m., Laramie takes on the Loveland, CO Aces. Game two of the doubleheader will be on KOWB (AM 1290).

Rangers’ manager Aaron Lozano knows his team is looking forward to being in town.

“It’s always nice to be at home. The wear and tear from travel. The expense to the program from travel, but more than anything, just these guys getting a chance to play in front of their friends and family. It always adds a bit of excitement.”

Lozano mentioned that his squad won’t be a full strength due to players missing for basketball camp and orientation for college freshmen.

“We’re going to see some guys playing some positions that they’re not used to playing, and some guys getting some extended looks on the mound… That opens the door for other guys to get playing time. For example, we might see Ben Ruckman start on the mound, Austin Westnitzer get a start on the mound. They’ve been working primarily in relief, and so just some things like that, that are kind of exciting to see these guys get a different opportunity.”

This will be a prolonged home-stand, as Laramie will play their next eight games at Cowboy Field over the next 10 days.

After tonight’s twin bill versus Loveland, the Rangers will play games against the Casper Oilers at noon on Saturday and 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, and Riverton Raiders at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday this weekend. The Greeley GoJo’s visit next Tuesday, June 18 for a doubleheader, and then Laramie hosts their annual Dooley Oil Classic June 20-23.

Lozano adds, “It’s going to be hard to kind of predict what to expect this weekend with some of these guys. Like I said, getting extended looks on the mound or even playing a new position.”
