University of Wyoming President Speaks Out Over Travel Ban
University of Wyoming President Laurie Nichols spoke out against President Trump’s executive order temporarily banning people from seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S.
In an email to UW students, faculty and staff, President Nichols said she had heard and shared in the concerns of the UW community.
“For a University that values international exchange of students and faculty and strives to educate out students to be global citizens, this action contradicts our values,” Nichols said in the email. “I want to affirm that we support all of our international students, faculty and staff, including those who come to us from those seven countries.”
Nichols said welcoming students and faculty from across the world to study, teach and conduct research at UW is integral to the university’s mission.
Nichols cautioned students, faculty and staff who are from the seven countries affected by the executive order against traveling outside the U.S. until the order is lifted. She said she has asked the international office to offer assistance such as answering questions to those with upcoming travel plans.
The University of Wyoming Students and Scholars program serves "more than 800 international students, 100 scholars and more than 200 international dependents annually," according to their website.
