Starting today (June 7), the Wagonhound Rest Area located off of I-80 between Laramie and Rawlins, will be closed. The closure is expected to last through September.

The closure is due to the necessary replacement of the I-80 bridge decks at the Wagonhound interchange. During this construction, all traffic will be rerouted to entrance and exit ramps of the interstate to make a detour around the bridges, according to a WYDOT Facebook post.

The closest WYDOT-operated rest areas in the vicinity for the duration of the closure will be the Fort Steele rest area for westbound traffic and the Summit rest area for eastbound traffic.

Also noted in the post is that the repair is part of a larger bridge rehabilitation project along the I-80 corridor between Laramie and Rawlins. The post also advised drivers to "exercise caution and drive carefully through work zones and be aware of traffic patterns in the work area."

For more information about the project, please call WYDOT District 1 Public Information Specialist Matt Murphy at 307-745-2142.
