Which TV Show Best Depicted Laramie In The Western Days? [VIDEO] [POLL]
In the late 1950's and early 1960's, there were two television shows produced by two different production companies about the Old West days in Laramie, Wyo.
The first show was 'Laramie,' an American Western television series on NBC from 1959 to 1963. The series starred John Smith as Slim Sherman, Robert Fuller as Jess Harper, Hoagy Carmichael as Jonesy, Robert L. Crawford as Andy Sherman and adding later to the cast was Spring Byington. The show was about two brothers and a drifter running a stagecoach stop for the Great Central Overland Mail Company. The story takes a turn for the worst at the end of the series when one of the brothers was accused of helping the Confederates during the American Civil War. It was the first television show to switch from black and white to color. You can catch replays on STARZ!'s Western channel or the Grit network.
The second show was 'Lawman,' an American Western television series on ABC from 1958 to 1962. It starred John Russel as Marshal Dan Troop and Peter Brown as Deputy Marshal Johnny McKay. It was set in Laramie during the late 1870'2 and early 1880's. The character Dan Troop leaves Abilene, Kansas for his new position as the town marshal of Laramie, Wy after the last marshal was murdered. All four season was released on DVD in 2015.
