If they could visit any place in the country, 35 percent of Americans say Yellowstone National Park is the top spot on their bucket list. Yellowstone ranked second in a recent survey of travelers, just one percentage point behind the Grand Canyon.

Niagara Falls finished behind Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon in third place,  followed by Las Vegas and Mount Rushmore. Other popular destinations on the American travel bucket list included Redwood National Park in California, New Orleans, New England, Miami, New York City and San Francisco.

Although Yellowstone finished second in the bucket list travel survey, it ranks fifth among the most visited national parks behind the Great Smoky Mountains, the Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Zion National Park in Utah.

Since Yellowstone was officially established as America's first national park in 1872, it has welcomed over 183 million visitors. Over 4 million tourists visited Yellowstone in 2018; the fourth consecutive year that attendance has topped the 4 million mark.
