Ask the City: Sidewalk Requirements
Question:
Why are there no sidewalks along the southwest corners of Garfield and 24th (by the childcare place), and Garfield and 22nd Streets (near the VFW)? This time of year with the melting snow it turns into a muddy mess. It's also a safety hazard for pedestrians. Isn't it a requirement of the property owner to have sidewalks within the city?
Response:
“Since 2010, vacant property that is developed, existing property that is extensively redeveloped, or property that is subdivided, all would require installation of sidewalks. Many properties, including the corner properties mentioned, were developed before 2010 when sidewalks were not required in many cases.”
