Garrett Coon has been a standout since he stepped on the football field as a sophomore at Sheridan High School.

Having just completed his senior season with a second Class 4A state championships, Coon received the 2019 Gatorade Wyoming Football Player of the Year award last Friday.

Coon capped an outstanding senior season as the only Class 4A player who received a third All-State honor this year. On the field, he produced 1,589 yards rushing and 29 touchdowns on the ground. Coon added 21 receptions for 299 yards and six more TDs. On defense, he scored twice and finished with 81 tackles, three interceptions, and a fumble recovery.

WyoPreps’ David Settle sat down for a phone conversation with the Gatorade Wyoming Football Player of the Year. They discussed this honor, what it means to him, his senior season, his career at Sheridan High School, his coach, teammates, and more.

While Coon remains undecided on his future at this time, if the past three years have taught us anything, he’ll be successful no matter what path he takes.
