Two handguns and methamphetamine were found in the vehicle of a man shot and killed by deputy U.S. Marshals in Douglas last week, according to a news release from the Converse County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday evening.

"In the interest of preventing misinformation, we are releasing the following known facts," the news release said.

However, significant questions remain unanswered.

U.S. Marshals came to Douglas on Thursday to serve a warrant on Jasen Scott Ramirez for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense.

At 2:43 p.m., the Sheriff's Office responded to a call about an officer-involved shooting at the St. James Catholic Church.

"Local Law Enforcement rendered aid to Jasen Scott Ramirez outside of the vehicle where he was shot, but Mr. Ramirez passed away," according to the news release.

A search warrant was obtained on the vehicle where authorities recovered about three-and-a-half ounces of methamphetamine and two handguns.

They found another half-ounce of methamphetamine on Ramirez's person.

However, the news release does not say why the U.S. Marshal's deputies used the church property, whether officers told Ramirez to stop, what prompted them to shoot, whether Ramirez was getting a gun, and who owned the vehicle.

Law enforcement also has not explained why a call went out on the Wyoming Highway Patrol dispatch about a shooting in Douglas 12 minutes before the Converse County Sheriff's Office received the call.

A trooper who was responding to that call was injured in a crash east of Glenrock.
