Highway Patrol Busy Over Labor Day Weekend

Over the Labor Day weekend, state troopers throughout Wyoming conducted 1100 traffic stops. From 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 29th, until midnight on Monday, September 1st, 17 impaired drivers were arrested, eight warrant arrests were made, two drug seizures were discovered and three miscellaneous arrests occurred.

Throughout the holiday weekend, 46 impaired driving reports, or REDDI Reports, were called in by motorists. Of those REDDI Reports, two arrests were made.

In addition, a total of 63 crashed were investigates with one fatal crash and nine other crashes involving injury. Troopers assisted 99 motorists over the weekend as well.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the campaign over the weekend was "Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving". Because of this campaign, troopers were primarily focused on identifying impaired drivers. Other violations that impact highway safety were also targeted such as non-use of child and occupant restraints, speeding and other moving violations.

Public Safety Announcements were utilized before and during the weekend to get the word out about the consequences and tragedies associated with impaired driving. Lieutenant Colonel Shannon Ratliff felt that the campaign was successful through the efforts of all Wyoming law enforcement and the public working together to keep the highways safe over the Labor Day weekend.
