Increased Police Visibility Reduces Crashes in Cheyenne
Cheyenne Police say increasing their visibility at four high-crash intersections in the city has reduced traffic accidents by about 40 percent.
Patrol officers, especially those on motorcycles, have been swarming the intersections of Yellowstone Road and Dell Range, Yellowstone Road and Carlson Street, Dell Range and Converse Avenue and Dell Range and Ridge Road in an effort to reduce red light violations.
"Since the beginning of the year we've been putting in extra enforcement," said Officer Dan Long. "So far we've conducted close to 600 hours of high visibility traffic enforcement at these intersections."
"We've written 541 red light citations," added Long. "That's up from the same time period last year, which was 317 red light citations."
Long says the department plans to continue the high visibility traffic enforcement throughout the the rest of the year.
