A violation of social distancing measures and other attendance rules have led to changes for fans at Cowboy Field.

The Laramie Legion Baseball Board of Directors released information that specific incidents have led to these changes that will impact who can and cannot be part of the crowd for Laramie Rangers’ home games.

KOWB was sent the following statement by the Legion Baseball Board that explains the changes and what took place to prompt them.

“Effective immediately, the only fans who will be allowed in the stadium for games, for the foreseeable future, are family members of the players and coaches (home and away teams). Specifically, NO non-family member minors will be permitted inside the fences of Cowboy Field.

Other adult fans will be admitted on a case by case basis as determined by the Board.

We have, unfortunately, had problems with some of the teenagers attending our games, primarily the non-family member teens, since the first home game. That culminated in unacceptable comments made to one of the Board members by some of those teens when they were required to practice social distancing, and with city employees witnessing teens breaking other rules that were set to allow us to have fans in the stands.

It is unfortunate we are losing those young fans, as they are a big part of the atmosphere in Cowboy Field during games, but the remainder of our season, both practices at Cowboy Field and home games were being threatened by a small minority of the fans. That is unacceptable. When paired with the fact that they disrespected adults who were tasked with enforcing the rules, the Board was given no other choice if we wanted any fans to be allowed at games.

It is possible that we will reconsider this decision in the future, but for now, only family members (immediate and extended), and some other adult fans, will be allowed in the stands for games.

The Laramie Legion Board and the City of Laramie ask all fans to please follow all the rules allowing us to play games at Cowboy Field this summer. The remainder of the Rangers’ season depends on it.”

Laramie returns home on Sunday with a doubleheader against the Westco Zephyrs from Scottsbluff, NE.
