Plainsmen Make it a 'Special' Senior Night With Win

Isaac Sell accounted for three touchdowns and Colter Nunn added two rushing TDs in Laramie’s 35-22 victory over Campbell County last Friday night.

The Plainsmen jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. They saw that cut to 21-16 in the third by the Camels. LHS got TD runs by Nunn and Sell and got up 35-16 before a late score by Campbell County produced the final margin.

Laramie (1-1) ran for 305 yards and averaged 9.5 yards per carry in the victory.

Plainsmen head coach Clint Reed said it was a victory with different phases to it.

“We started out quick, we ended good, and there was a lull in the middle. They got a little chippy. We, emotionally and mentally, got out of our game and let some things affect us.”

Laramie started fast. Nunn raced 54-yards for a touchdown on the second play of the game for a 7-0 lead.

After an interception by Campbell County, the Camels gave it right back to the Plainsmen. A mishandled fake led to a fumble return for a touchdown by Sell from 30-yards out and a 14-0 lead.

Sell added to it with a 57-yard TD run on the next offensive series for LHS. It was 21-0 after the first quarter.

The Camels scored on a 16-play drive that saw them convert three fourth-downs. Kaden Race found Remar Pitter from 18-yards out midway through the second quarter. Campbell County blocked a Laramie punt late in the first half that resulted in a team safety. It was 21-9 at halftime.

The Camels pulled within 21-16 on a 47-yard Race to Angel Nava TD pass with 4:19 left in the third.

Laramie fumbled on their next offensive play but the defense responded with a stop on four downs. Six plays later, Nunn ran it in from 17-yards out and gave the Plainsmen a 28-16 lead.

Sell capped it for LHS with a 32-yard TD run with 3:09 left.

Campbell County got a late score, which made the final, 35-22.

Sell finished with 186 yards rushing and added three catches for 47 yards. Nunn had 128 yards rushing. Jake Vigen went 3-11 for 47 yards and an interception.

Reed was happy with the offensive line and 305 yards on the ground.

“Too many just big plays all the time, though. I guess what I mean by that is, no one would want to turn away a big play, but I would’ve liked to see us persevere in those middle two quarters and be able to just chip away, and chip away, and chip away with nice, good runs, and continue to get first downs, and to keep the time-of-possession. It was a big play, and then there was a couple of lapses, and that would push us back, and get us out of position, but I’m still very proud of the boys.”

Defensively, Laramie allowed only 285 yards to the Camels. They had two takeaways and two sacks. Graham Jacques led the way with 19.5 defensive points. Gavin Kopp and Garrett Dodd added 17 defensive points apiece.

Reed is also happy with the “buy-in” he’s seeing with his team.

“Guys are stepping up, and when you get tired, when injuries happen, when guys need to be spelled, guys are stepping up, and they want to get in, they want to contribute, and they want to be part of the team in every way possible. They’re very humble in every way that they can, finding ways to contribute.”

The Plainsmen head back on the road for their next two games. First up is a road trip to Casper to play the Natrona County Mustangs (0-2). Kick-off is at 7 p.m. on Friday.
