Any time you can offer 33 shows on 3 stages over the course of 3 days, it will get people’s attention, and that is something the Albany County Tourism Board greatly appreciates. The 2012 Snowy Range Music Festival is boasting a top notch lineup with something for everyone, which will likely bring a few thousand music lovers to the Gem City over Labor Day weekend.

“It’s always our goal, that if there’s a good event, that it will bring people to Laramie and put heads on beds,” said Fred Ockers, Executive Director of the Albany County Tourism Board.

According to Ockers, it’s especially important for them to pump attractions on fall weekends when the University of Wyoming football team is not playing at home. Ockers said the Wyoming Office of Tourism put ads in newspapers from Rapid City to Denver promoting package deals with hotel stays in order to add to the regional draw the festival has become over the past few years.

The Snowy Range Music Festival has become an attraction for more than just the concert goers, interest from bands has skyrocketed. In 2009, Festival Director Carl Gustafson put together the entire lineup by reaching out to bands. In 2010, he had 200 bands contact him. That number grew to 900 for last year’s festival. This year, Gustafson says he had 1,300 bands submit information to try and get into the lineup.

Basically, to make the cut you have to be a proven, talented band. It also means that the festival continues to pull big headliners with Dr. John, Macy Gray and Huey Lewis and the News taking top billing this year.

The 2012 Snowy Range Music Festival will be at the Albany County Fairgrounds from Friday, August 31st through Sunday, September 2nd. Tickets can be purchased at the Laramie Area Chamber of Commerce, the Brown’N'Gold Outlet, the University of Wyoming Student Union or online. Check out the full lineup below.
