History of the Wyoming-New Mexico Series

Wyoming and New Mexico are meeting for the 24th consecutive season since both became founding members of the Mountain West Conference in 1999. Prior to that, they were founding members of the Western Athletic Conference in 1962. The two schools have been in the same conference since 1951, when they were both members of the Skyline Conference.

The series is only divided by four games, with Wyoming having won 39 times and New Mexico 35.

The Cowboys hold a one-game advantage in games played in Albuquerque, winning 19 times to UNM’s 18 victories. The Pokes also hold the advantage in games played in Laramie 20-16. There has been one neutral-site game played between the two schools. That came in the 2020 COVID-shortened season when New Mexico was forced to move their home games to Las Vegas. The Lobos won that neutral-site contest.

The last time Wyoming played in Albuquerque, the Cowboys came away with a 31-3 win in 2018. UW is looking to break a two-game losing streak to the Lobos when they travel south this Saturday. Wyoming lost that neutral-site game in Las Vegas in 2020 (17-16) and lost in Laramie in 2021 (14-3).
