A Laramie man was arrested and charged with burglary Monday, Dec. 19.

Robert Nelson, 49, was arrested after a Laramie Police officer responded to a report of burglary that had occurred at Big D Exxon the previous evening.

According to court documents, the officer responded to a report that a red Dodge truck had hit a fence in Laramie, and was currently sitting in a ditch. Upon arrival at the scene, the officer noted the miscellaneous tools and ladders in the bed of the truck. The officer ran the registration of the vehicle and it was determined to belong to Nelson. Nelson was unable to be located.

The officer was later dispatched to the report of burglary at the Big D Exxon, which reported multiple tools and clothing items were stolen.

Nelson’s attorney contacted the officer shortly after this and told the officer that Nelson was at his residence and confirmed the items in the bed of Nelson’s truck were stolen, according to the affidavit.

In the surveillance video from the Big D Exxon, Nelson was identified by the officer as the individual who entered the building at the time the items were taken.

If convicted, Nelson could face up to 10 years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
