A Laramie man accused of possessing methamphetamine pleaded guilty on one count Tuesday in Albany County District Court.

As part of a plea deal, 27-year-old Cody Matthew Sullivan pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance. In exchange for the guilty plea, the prosecution agreed to drop the other charge -- possession with intent to deliver -- and recommend a split sentence of one year in the Albany County Detention Center followed by supervised probation.

Sullivan faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison plus a $15,000 fine.

Sullivan was arrested April 21 after an Albany County Sheriff's deputy spotted Sullivan, who he recognized from a previous arrest. Court documents say Sullivan was wanted in Colorado on charges of possessing a controlled substance and paraphernalia as well as driving without insurance.

The officer approached Sullivan in Wyoming Downs at 421 Boswell Street, confirmed the warrant and arrested Sullivan. According to the deputy's affidavit, Sullivan had jewelry in a small ring box as well as a baggie of methamphetamine, which weighed 6.2 grams with packaging. Sullivan also had numerous gold $1 U.S. coins on his person along with $1,480 in cash.

Sullivan reportedly told the deputy that he won the money at the Wyoming Downs casino, but the casino said no one had won that much all month.

Court documents go on to say that the manager of Wyoming Downs got in touch with the deputy later on and said he found a suspicious black box behind one of the gambling machines. That box contained more methamphetamine, weighing roughly 23.7 grams with packaging.

Surveillance footage reportedly showed Sullivan dropping the meth in or behind the gambling machines.

"That's a lot," Judge Jeffrey Donnell remarked in court on Tuesday. "What were you going to do with that?"

"Probably end up using it," replied Sullivan.

Donnell ordered Sullivan remanded to custody, given that his bond was not posted and the Colorado arrest warrant remains active. A date for Sullivan's sentencing will be set pending completion of the presentence investigation.
