Laramie Mayor Talks Construction and 15th Street Meetings [VIDEOS]
Construction season has been a hot topic this summer in Laramie, and so will be the possibility of a closure to 15th Street on the UW campus.
Laramie Mayor Andrea Summerville addressed both subjects in a recent visit during the "Laramie Live on KOWB" radio morning show with host David Settle. It's part of the monthly "Mondays With They Mayor" series on KOWB (AM 1290).
Summerville points out that construction season in Laramie is always short, and there's been no shortage of projects going on this year in the Gem City.
She says that while it is frustrating, it is something that is needed for the city's infrastructure. Summerville admitted to some delays with the Grand Avenue construction, but questioned one contractor on another project.
Keep in mind that not all current projects are through the City of Laramie, but that some are under the jurisdiction of WYDOT, such as the Harney Street viaduct and the 15th street bridge repair.
On a different note, later this month and into early October be looking and listening for open forums to discuss the possibility of closing down 15th Street for a few blocks on the University of Wyoming campus.
With a report due to the state legislature by Nov. 1, discussion is starting to ramp up on this topic. Mayor Summerville said the talks will include City of Laramie leaders, University of Wyoming leaders and the public to gather input on whether this possible closure should happen sometime in the future.
This request came as a footnote on a bill late in the last legislative session that ended back in early March 2017.
