Most Pole Mountain Roads Open for Season
Most roads on the Pole Mountain unit of the Medicine Bow National Forest have opened for the summer and are now open for motorized vehicles.
One exception is Forest Road 700, or Vedauwoo Road, which remains closed while Laramie Ranger District crews finalize designated dispersed camps sites along the road, according to a Forest Service Press release. The road is expected to open prior to Memorial Day Weekend. Signage will be placed to direct recreationists where they can legally camp.
With the exception of the Vedauwoo Road corridor the rest of the Pole Mountain Unit is open year-round to camping.
The National Forest System roads on the 55,000-acre section of National Forest between Laramie and Cheyenne had been seasonally closed to motor vehicles since Feb. 1 as a result of the Pole Mountain Travel Management Decision.
The Forest Service says water services are temporarily unavailable at the Vedauwoo day-use area and campground. District staff is working to prepare Tie City and Yellow Pine campgrounds for opening season.
While roads dry out and reopen, the U.S. Forest Service would like to stress that users must stay on designated routes and can’t travel off-road. Annual shooting restrictions are also in effect and prohibit the discharge of firearms from March 31 through Sept. 10. Violations can be reported to the Laramie Ranger District at (307)-745-2300.
