Third Annual Firefighter Awards Ceremony Honors Hometown Heroes
The Laramie Fire Department took time to recognize the firefighters, EMT's and others who went above and beyond in their duties last year during the Laramie Fire Department's 2017 Awards Ceremony on Friday at City Hall.
Gus Stonum, Laramie Fire Department company officer and EMT, said the awards began as a way to recognize the achievements of firefighters on an annual basis. Stonum said firefighters are nominated by their peers, who submit their names for exeptional behavior in the line of duty.
Justin Schleicher received the award of Firefighter of the year. The award is presented to the individual who characterizes the best attributes of being a firefighter and goes above and beyond.
Firefighter Corey Haefner was recognized as EMT of the year. Life saving medals were awarded to Company Officer Trevor Kern, Firefighter Chase Bridgmon, Firefighter Craig Rumsey and Firefighter Ben Cole. Baby commendation medals- awarded to firefighters who assisted in the delivery of a baby- were given to Company Officer Todd Hixon and Firefighters Seth Banham and Patrick Smerud. Equipment Operator Mike Nyquist, Firefighters Chase Bridgmon Ryan Portman received commendation awards.
Honor Guard awards were given to Equipment Operator Nyquist, Company Officer Gus Stonum, Kevin Rice, Equipment Operator Cy Cass, Equipment Operator Joe Mathews, Firefighter Bridgmon, Brad Lowry and Patrick Smerud.
Special Response Team Awards were given to Equipment Operator Cy Cass, Equipment Operator Joe Mathews and Firefighter Carson Schilt.
