Rachel Calvo took third place, while Ty Everson finished fourth to lead the University of Wyoming rodeo teams at the CNFR in Casper last week.

Wyoming took fifth in the women’s standings, while the men placed eighth when the competition concluded last Saturday night at the Casper Events Center. The Cowgirls finished with 275 team points. The Cowboys wrapped up the week-long rodeo with 470 points.

McNeese State won the women’s team crown with 462.5 points. Panola Junior College out of Texas won the men’s team championship with 825 team points.

Calvo, a sophomore, put together three good runs in barrel racing that put her in position to contend. Her final round time was 14.21 seconds, which gave Calvo a total time of 57.51 seconds over four rounds. That 0.48 seconds away from a national title.

UW sophomore teammate Kelsey Lensegrav took ninth in the barrel racing.

Another Wyoming Cowgirl, Teisha Coffield, tied for seventh place in the goat tying competition.

Everson, a junior, led the Pokes with the best finish in steer wrestling. He had the fourth-fastest time in the finals last Saturday night in 5.2 seconds. Everson’s total time over the four rounds of action was 20.7 seconds. That was only 0.8 away from a national crown.

Fellow junior Seth Peterson was right behind Everson. Peterson came in fifth with a total time of 21.6 seconds.

This was the first time in 13 years that the University of Wyoming qualified full six-man and four-woman teams to the CNFR.
