BREAKING: Nyaires Redding Suspended From Wyoming Basketball Team
In a season that's already seen the Wyoming Cowboys face a lot of adversity with injuries comes the latest, but this stems from an off-court incident.
The University of Wyoming released the following statement Tuesday before its' game versus the Denver Pioneers at 7 p.m.:
University of Wyoming head basketball coach Allen Edwards announced on Tuesday that senior guard Nyaires Redding has been suspended indefinitely from the University of Wyoming men’s basketball team. Redding’s suspension is effective immediately.
Redding is being suspended due to his alleged involvement in an altercation in downtown Laramie on Saturday, Dec. 8. Details of the altercation are still being investigated.
“As soon as we became aware of this situation, we informed our athletics administration,” said Edwards. “Ny is being suspended from all team activities immediately.”
“In connection with the suspension of Ny Redding, we will follow all university policies and procedures related to this alleged incident,” said Tom Burman, University of Wyoming Athletics Director.
There will be no further comment from University of Wyoming Athletics at this time.
Redding becomes the sixth player to miss game action this season. Sophomore Hunter Maldonado has been in and out of the lineup while he deals with a back injury. Senior Jordan Naughton is still out with a knee injury but is expected to return in a few more weeks. Sophomore Austin Mueller has been lost for the season because of a knee injury, and then redshirt freshman Hunter Thompson missed five games and part of a sixth in concussion protocol after taking a shot to the head in the season-opener Nov. 6 versus UC Santa Barbara. Junior college transfer Lwal Dung has left the program and intends to play professionally back home in Australia. Coach Edwards has said he is finishing out this semester.
After the game against Denver Tuesday, Wyoming is off until after finals are complete. Their next action is not until Dec. 21 and 22 at the Sun Bowl Invitational in El Paso, TX.
