Gusty southwest winds combined with low humidities and isolated dry thunderstorms are expected to make for dangerous conditions across large portions Wyoming, including the Laramie Valley, on Friday.

The National Weather Service early Thursday issued an urgent fire weather watch set to take effect Friday afternoon.

Forecasters say isolated thunderstorms will bring little rain but could lead to new fires, while the highest threat will come from low humidities and strong winds that may help fires grow rapidly.

Humidities are expected to range from 12-15 percent Friday afternoon and evening with sustained west to southwest winds of 20-30 mph will gust to 40 mph.

The affected area includes Niobrara County; lower elevations of Converse County; the Thunder Basin National Grassland in central and northern Carbon County; Seminoe State Park; the Ferris, Seminoe and Shirley Mountains; the Laramie Valley; and the Shirley Basin.

Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The National Weather Service encourages folks to keep up with forecasts and look for possible red flag warnings.
