Laramie Hit With Another Round of Power Outages
Another round of power outages is leaving Laramie residents without electricity this morning, after Rocky Mountain Power worked to get power on to residents who lost power due to the heavy snowfall yesterday night.
According to Rocky Mountain Power’s Wyoming Outage Map, there are multiple outages in Laramie, one of them affecting 7,364 customers just north of the University of Wyoming. Crews have been dispatched to the area and are working on getting power restored. The outage was reported at 9:34 a.m.
A spokesman with RMP, David Eskelsen, said crews are checking substations and patrolling lines to try to identify the issue. Eskelsen said with the heavy snow, the presumption is the issue was caused downed tree branches.
Eskelsen said he did not have an estimated restoration time, but that customers should be prepared to be without power for an extended time period, because of the nature of the weather and the fact that many of the RMP's power lines are in very rural areas.
The City of Laramie announced that due to the power outage, all of its offices will be closed for the remainder of the day and will reopen on Monday, March 18th at 8 a.m.
Albany County Commissioner Tim Chesnut said the County Courthouse is closed today as well, because of intermittent power outages.
