A man is dead following a Memorial Day standoff in Crook County.

His name and age have not been released.

According to a news release from the Crook County Sheriff's Office, the standoff resulted from a domestic disturbance.

Deputies responded at roughly 3 a.m. Monday to a report of the domestic disturbance, which involved a physical attack and the discharge of a firearm.

A female victim, who likewise has not been identified, escaped a residence where the assault occurred. The man involved in the disturbance barricaded himself inside the home.

"Throughout the early morning hours and into the day, Crook County Sheriff's Office deputies attempted to make contact with the male subject," the news release reads. "The subject refused to communicate with officers."

At about 4 p.m., deputies assisted in breaching one of the home's doors. A reconnaissance robot was sent into the residence.

The sheriff's office says the subject was found, but he still did not respond to commands from deputies who were stationed outside the home.

He later committed suicide.

No further details have been released.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate. Crook County Sheriff Jeff Hodge thanked the Campbell County Sheriff's Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol and Moorcroft EMS for their assistance throughout the standoff.
