Trace Young Departs Wyoming Men’s Basketball Program
The Wyoming men’s basketball team will be losing one of its freshmen from the 2019 season, as Trace Young has decided to transfer.
In a Twitter post midday Monday, April 1, Young announced he’s leaving the Cowboys and has officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He thanked the team, the coaching staff, the faculty at the school, plus the fans.
Young averaged 6.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He started 13 games last season.
Head coach Allen Edwards released a statement saying, “We thank Trace for his contributions to the program during his time here, and we wish him well in the future.”
Edwards and the UW will have no further comment on the matter.
Young isn't the lone Cowboy that has concluded his career in the brown and gold. Freshman Tariq Johnson, who played in nine games last season, has had his time cut short because of a medical disqualification according to the Casper Star-Tribune. Johnson has a genetic heart condition that led to him being shut down during the season.
Johnson will remain on scholarship if he continues to be enrolled at UW, but it will not count towards Wyoming's 13 scholarships next season.
