Campbell’s Hat Trick Pushes Plainsmen Past Sheridan
Make it six straight wins for the third-ranked Laramie Plainsmen, who defeated No. 2 Sheridan by a final score of 4-1 Friday in Laramie.
Senior Cameron Campbell scored three times, while Blake Moore added the fourth goal, as the Plainsmen rallied for victory.
Moore said they wanted payback for the loss at Sheridan April 9th.
“We had that revenge mindset after they beat us in overtime, after we really fought. Once they got that first goal, we just came back strong.”
The second-ranked Broncs got on the scoreboard first. Noah Iberlin tallied in the fourth minute.
After a slow start, Laramie tied it in the 31st minute when Moore fed Campbell. Eight minutes later, Laramie got the go-ahead goal from Moore, who was assisted by Enrique Isidro. It turned out to be the game-winner.
The Plainsmen scored twice in the first ten minutes of the second half. Moore hooked up with Campbell in the 44th. Campbell then recorded the hat trick off a feed from Anthony Castano in the 50th minute.
Head coach Dan Benford said the first time they moved Cameron to forward was in the second half at Sheridan.
“Ever since, we’ve been on a roll scoring goals, and our offense has just been clicking with Cam up there. I think it probably frustrated them (Sheridan), and it’s frustrated every team we’ve played recently.”
Moore added their offensive success is due to their style of play.
“We’ve been getting the ball to Cam (Cameron Campbell), and he’s been doing a really good job of coming wide. When we’re getting it wide, we’re bringing it right back into him (Cameron), and he’s just finishing; doing his thing.”
Laramie is now 8-2 on the season and 4-1-0-1 in the 4A East Conference.
They face the top-ranked Gillette Camels Saturday at 11 a.m. The match is at the UW Indoor Practice Facility.
