Laramie Tries To Take Down the Tigers
Fresh off a win in their season opener for the first time in 10 years, the Laramie Plainsmen try to make it two straight Friday night in Rock Springs.
It’s the first road game of the 2019 season with the Plainsmen facing the Tigers in Rock Springs.
Last year’s 21-14 victory in Laramie stopped a four-game skid in the series for LHS. The bigger task will be trying to win the first two games of a season for the first time since 2000. The last road win in the series for Laramie was in 2013, by a final score of 18-14.
Laramie (1-0) is ranked No. 5 in this week's WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Poll. They enter off a 24-17 victory over Kelly Walsh last Friday night.
Rock Springs (0-1) fell out of the top five after their 23-7 loss at No. 3 Sheridan last week.
Plainsmen head coach Clint Reed visited with KOWB’s David Settle this week. They looked back at the first victory of the season, talked about preparations for the next game, and how the match-up looks against Rock Springs with a new head coach.
Both teams threw the ball well in their first game of the season. Laramie was at 211 yards, while Rock Springs was at 194. The Plainsmen had a little more success on the ground with 122 yards compared to the Tigers 98. Both had turnover issues, three for LHS and two for Rock Springs. They are also with six yards of each other in total defense, 275 (RS) versus 281 (LHS).
The Tigers new head coach is Mark Lenhardt, who came over after spending the last eight season in Torrington. He led the Trail Blazers to a pair of runner-up finishes the last two years in Class 3A. The Tigers feature wide receiver/running back Favor Okere, running back Collin Madsen, and quarterback Seth Hymas.
Laramie counters with QB Garrett Dodd. The junior had 272 all-purpose yards and accounted for two scores in the season-opening victory. Senior receiver Janson Adair had 124 yards receiving and caught a pair of TD passes. Linebacker Colter Nunn led the way with 20 defensive points. That’s good for No. 5 in Class 4A.
It’s the 86th meeting on the gridiron between the two schools. Kick-off is at 6 p.m. from Tiger Stadium in Rock Springs.
KOWB (AM 1290) will broadcast the game live. Coverage will start at 5 p.m. with David Settle and Aaron Lozano calling the action. You can listen on your radio, through the KOWB app anywhere you go, online, and also through Amazon Alexa-enabled devices and Google Home devices.
