Two former Laramie Plainsmen standouts have been chosen to play in the 2019 Wyoming Shrine Bowl Football Game this summer in Casper.

Ben Kruzich and Jason Upton have been selected to the South Team by head coach Aaron Makelky and his coaching staff. They are two of 36 players on the roster.

Kruzich was a First Team All-State selection on both the offensive and defensive lines his senior year at Laramie High School. He helped the Plainsmen average 159.3 rushing yards per game and a 4.9 yards per rush team average. Kruzich also finished second in Class 4A in defensive points. He averaged 16.5 per game. That included eight sacks and 10 tackles for loss. Kruzich had 94 total tackles, a fumble recovery, and two pass breakups.

Upton was Second Team All-State At-Large Offense his senior season. He started at quarterback and free safety for the Plainsmen. Upton ran for 684 yards and 11 touchdowns and averaged 5.3 yards per rushing attempt in 2018. He also threw for 569 yards and six touchdowns, with 13 interceptions.

Both players helped Laramie to a 4-6 record last season. The Plainsmen earned their highest playoff seed, at No. 5, since 2005, but lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs at No. 4 seed Cheyenne East, 37-21.

The 46th annual Wyoming Shrine Bowl Football Game is June 8, 2019, at Cheney Alumni Field in Casper.
