The season is underway for the Laramie High School golf teams with new head coach Aaron Johnson leading the way.

Johnson was an assistant with the program last year and is a former LHS golfer from the mid-2000s.

He inherits a boys’ squad that returns all its participants from last fall’s state golf meet. That includes sophomore Jackson McClaren, who was All-State and All-Conference as a freshman a year ago.

The girls’ team returns only one golfer in junior Camryn Nagy, who wasn’t too far from all-state or all-conference honors.

Johnson joined KOWB’s David Settle in the video above to talk about taking over as head coach, transitioning from an assistant role to the outlook for this season, and more.

Laramie comes off a 2018 season that saw the boys finish eighth out of 11 teams at the state championships, and the girls took fifth out of nine teams.

McClaren and Nagy will be leading the charge in 2019. They also joined KOWB’s David Settle for a glimpse at the 2019 season, including their goals, and some rapid-fire questions.

The season begins with the Wheatland Golf Tournament Thursday and Friday. Next week, the teams are off to Douglas on Aug. 22 and 23. There are also trips to Rock Springs (Aug. 29-30), Rawlins (Sept. 5-6), and Casper (Sept. 12-13).

The Class 4A State Golf Championships will be at Bell Knob Golf Course in Gillette Sept. 20 and 21.

This year’s Laramie High School golf roster features the following players: Camryn Nagy, Grace Kordon, Samantha Kitchen, Braden Six, Jackson McClaren, Caden McFate, Titus Wookey, Thayne Thatcher, Bridger Bleak, Austin Dahl, Tim Stephens, Tayton Moore, Braden Williams, Aidon Buchanan, Gage Hepworth, Andrew Stannard, Colter Harvey, Sean Lang, and Kyle Morton.
