Young Laramie Teams Ready For State Golf Championships
The short high school golf season will conclude this weekend for Laramie High School at the Class 4A State Championships in Gillette.
LHS will join the rest of the 4A teams at Bell Nob Golf Course for 36 holes of medal play. They will play 18 holes on Friday and another 18 on Saturday. Both days will start at 9 a.m.
Laramie will be represented by Camryn Nagy, Grace Kordon, Samantha Kitchen, and Emma Master on the ladies side. The boys’ team consists of Jackson McClaren, Titus Wookey, Andrew Stannard, Braden Six, and Thayne Thatcher.
The Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen are competing against Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne South, Evanston, Green River, Kelly Walsh, Natrona County, Rock Springs, Sheridan and Thunder Basin.
Laramie coach Aaron Johnson spoke with KOWB’s David Settle in the video above about the state golf championships. Johnson talked about how the season went entering this weekend with young squads. He pointed to course management as a big key for this weekend, plus talked about the course and the practice round, and how Laramie looks team-wise.
Last year Jackson McClaren finished in the top 10 and earned All-State honors. The Plainsmen came in eighth out of 11 teams in 2018. The girls finished fifth out of nine squads, but they do not return a top-10 finisher from a year ago. Nagy was All-Conference golfer during this past spring.
