Two rivals in a similar situation will square off at Riske Field Friday night, when the Central Indians host the Laramie Plainsmen in Cheyenne.

Both teams enter the game with a 1-3 record and need a victory to help their playoff positioning and hopes down the road. Also, both teams have their only win against Campbell County in the last two weeks. The Plainsmen won at Gillette 44-0 on Sept. 8, while the Indians won at home last Friday, 66-13.

Laramie has won two straight in the series, including a dramatic 35-34 overtime win at Riske Field two years ago.

Plainsmen head coach Clint Reed feels like his team can build off a solid first half against Natrona, has to play to their strength and must be ready for the athletes that Central has. He preview the game with KOWB’s David Settle.

While both possess the same record, the Indians enter the game with a definitive edge of gaining 80 more yards per game that Laramie. Central averages 362 yards and 32.2 points per game. That compares to 281 yards and 26 points per game for LHS. Both teams have similar defensive statistics. The Indians allow 366 yards and 28 points per game, while the Plainsmen give up 380 yards and 32 points per game.

Individually, Central has the No. 2 rusher and receiver in class 4A. Running back Adarius Gallon has run for 151 yards per game and scored seven touchdowns. Receiver Niko Bostic has hauled in 27 passes for 348 yards and three scores.

Laramie’s strength and edge may come through the air. The Plainsmen are passing for nearly 183 yards per game, while the Indians are last in 4A allowing 221 yards per game. QB Nate Burman is ranked third in passing and all-purpose yards.

For a second straight week Laramie is taking part in a long-time tradition-rich rivalry that dates back to 1909.

The Plainsmen and Indians will kick-off at 7 p.m. in Cheyenne. KOWB Radio (AM 1290) will air the game. It’s also available on our stream and through our brand new KOWB app.
