Was South Carolina Coach Frank Martin Right About Wyoming Fans? [POLL]
Frank Martin flew his team 1,700 miles to see his friend and former player Allen Edwards. After Edwards and Wyoming upset Martin's South Carolina Gamecocks at the Arena-Auditorium last night, the veteran coach had some interesting comments about Cowboys basketball fans and their lack of support for the program.
"I'm disappointed in the kind of questions and comments that I heard from Wyoming folks representative of their team," Martin told reporters, referencing his appearance at a speaking engagement on Tuesday night. "There's a negative connotation about 'aw, we're struggling'. The guy (Edwards) has given you, in his first two years as head coach, two 20-win seasons."
Martin and Edwards go way back. Martin coached Edwards in a Miami youth basketball league and later in high school. While Edwards went on to win two National Championships at the University of Kentucky, Martin made the leap from high school to college, eventually becoming the Big 12 Coach of the Year at Kansas State before leading to South Carolina to their first Final Four appearance in 2017. The mentor had high praise for his protege last night.
"Allen Edwards is a winner. He's an unbelievable leader of young people and that's why (Wyoming) won," Martin said.
Which begs the question, was Martin right about Cowboys fans and their lack of support for the basketball program? Give us your opinion.
