The Cooper Center for the Creative Arts is inviting the Laramie community to attend its Art in the Dark: A Fluorescent Event fundraiser this weekend.

The event, which will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan.27 will feature a display of black light art, as well as brightly colored art for residents to enjoy and potentially purchase.

Peter Laegreid, Ark Regional Services outreach specialist, said the event is in place of the normal fundraiser for the Cooper Center for the Creative Arts.

“This year we thought we would mix it up and bring in a comedian and have it be more fun-focused than fundraiser-focused,” Laegreid said.

Laegreid said the event will start out with a beer and wine tasting provided by Northridge Discount Liquors. Nina G., the stuttering comedian from San Francisco, will be doing a stand-up routine for attendees. Caterings of Laramie will be providing heavy appetizers.

Laegreid said local Laramie artists all created the black light artwork that will be featured at the fundraiser. Many of the pieces are created by people who take classes at the Cooper Center, to showcase what the students are learning. Laegreid said the art is all for sale, and there will be a silent auction for some of the pieces.

The funds raised from the event will support all the services the Cooper Center provides – art classes, theatre productions, music instruction, dance classes and other offerings. Laegreid said the fundraiser will help buy supplies and pay the wages of the instructors of the classes.

Tickets to the event are $35 each or $50 for two and are available at the Cooper Center for the Creative Arts at 1174 N. 4th Street, Ark Regional Services at 1150 N. 3rd Street and online at www.arkcreativearts.org.
