Both Laramie High School basketball teams lost their first-round 4A East Regional tournament games to Thunder Basin Thursday in Cheyenne.

The Plainsmen fell 67-46, while the Lady Plainsmen lost 61-33.

Laramie (8-13) got down by 15 in the first half but fought back. A 21-8 run by the Plainsmen got them within two, at 35-33, in the third. Thunder Basin (15-8) responded with eight straight points for a 45-33 lead, and LHS wasn’t able to get back in the game. The Bolts also shot 23-27 at the foul line.

Will Tyser scored a career-high 23 points, which included six 3-pointers in the loss. Christian Mickelson added 13 points.

The Plainsmen will face an elimination game Friday versus Natrona County at 1:30 p.m. from Storey Gym in Cheyenne.

On the ladies side, Laramie (6-15) battled for three quarters before the Bolts pulled away with 26 points in the final quarter. The Lady Plainsmen had a 13-11 lead after the first. They scored just three points in the second. Thunder Basin (19-3) used an 8-0 run to end the first half and get the separation they needed. After a close third, the Bolts rolled to their big win in the fourth.

Jennifer Aadland recorded her ninth double-double this season. She scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Laramie attempted 25 fewer shots than Thunder Basin.

The Lady Plainsmen return to the court on Friday at 9 a.m. from Storey Gym in Cheyenne.
