Laramie Tennis Resets Its Roster For A New Season

Tennis balls have been popping off rackets at Laramie High School for just over a week, as the high school season is underway.

Laramie is led by fifth-year head coach Elizabeth Clower has more rebuilding to do in 2019 with 17 seniors gone from last year’s squads. The Plainsmen came in a tie for fourth place at state, while the girls slipped to eighth.

Senior Kyle Moore, who plays at No. 1 singles, leads LHS boys’ team, while senior Grace Dorrell, who’s moved up from No. 2 to No. 1 singles this season, heads up the LHS girls’ team.

Coach Clower and Moore visited with KOWB’s David Settle during a recent LHS Tennis fundraiser with the community. They talked about the team outlook, goals for the team and individually, and more.

Laramie began its season Monday in Casper with a split of matches against Kelly Walsh and Natrona County. In the dual versus the Trojans, the girls lost 5-0, while the boys fell 4-1. Moore had the lone victory against KW with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Buck Harris. Both teams bounced back and swept the Mustangs and Fillies by a score of 5-0. Both squads recorded all straight-sets victories with Moore also winning by forfeit at No. 1 singles for the boys’ team.

LHS continues its season with five of their next six matches at home. They will host Rawlins and Cheyenne South Friday at 2 and 4 p.m., respectively. Then, Green River visits Saturday at 10 a.m.
